Inclusion and Additional Learning Needs

Inclusion and Additional Learning Needs (ALN)

At Notre Dame du Rosaire, we believe every child is a gift from God, possessing unique value and dignity. Our commitment to Christ’s ministry calls us to provide an inclusive community where all children are supported to reach their full potential—intellectually, emotionally, physically, socially, and spiritually. We are dedicated to ensuring a supportive, purposeful, and relevant curriculum for every learner.

Our approach to inclusion is guided by the Guernsey Code of Practice for ALN. We are committed to raising the aspirations and expectations for all pupils with additional learning needs.

Our Aim

We aim to create an inclusive environment by providing a structured, accessible, and varied experience of the curriculum that removes barriers to learning. Our approach is founded on the principle that High-Quality Inclusive Practice (HQIP) is integral to all aspects of school life. This involves a cycle of effective teaching, assessment, and targeted support, with a particular focus on literacy, numeracy, and communication skills.

For pupils requiring additional provision, we use a tiered approach based on the Code of Practice:

  • Targeted Support: In-school interventions are delivered by class teachers or support staff to address specific needs.

  • Specialist Support: If a pupil requires more intensive support, we collaborate with external professionals and agencies, such as the Learning and Inclusion Service (LIS) or the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), to provide expert guidance and provision.

We believe in early identification of needs through ongoing assessment and observation. Personalised provision, such as Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs), is regularly reviewed to ensure it remains relevant and effective.

Our Commitment

We believe that the best outcomes for pupils are achieved through strong partnerships. We are committed to fostering positive, respectful partnerships with parents, who are consulted and involved at every stage of their child’s journey. We also actively involve pupils in decisions about their learning and provision, empowering them to become confident, independent, and self-reliant contributors.

By recognising the uniqueness of every child and supporting them with compassion, expertise, and collaboration, we empower our pupils to grow in confidence and faith, and to become successful, resilient, and loving members of our community and the wider world.
